Tree Maintenance and Management Reports
Love your tree? Managing a significant tree or population of trees?
Xylology specialise in tree health assessment, maintenance and management advice.
By analysing the site conditions, previous management, symptoms of stress and site usage, we make tree and site specific recommendations for management based on current Horticultural and Arboricultural best practice.

Tree Surveys, Audits and Mapping
Xylology can conduct regular, or one-off, tree audits. Audits can be used to manage your assets effectively and are often required to meet liability requirements. Information such as tree risk, condition, ongoing maintenance and planting opportunities etc. can be collected. Xylology can spatially locate trees with survey level accuracy and, depending on your project requirements, issue reports, maps and data in various formats including Esri File Geodatabase, Shapefile, KML and/or Excel spreadsheet.

Expert Witness Statements and Reports for Land and Environment Court
In all jurisdictions in Australia, experts are part of the litigation process. Depending on the court and the matter under consideration, expert evidence may be required of numerous professionals including arborists.
A consultant may need to give evidence in the court room where the expert has an overriding duty to assist the court impartially on matters relevant to the expert witness’s area of expertise. Xylology can provide expert witness representation in relation to Arboricultural matters.

Preliminary Tree Assessment Reports
A Preliminary Tree Assessment (PTA) should take place at the beginning of the project, once site surveys have been completed. A preliminary report provides quantitative and qualitative information on the trees. The trees are numbered and assessed by the project arborist and are then allocated a retention value. The PTA provides arboricultural data and information to guide the layout of the development prior to submission of a Development Application (DA).
All development reports are completed in line with AS4970-2009 and relevant planning policies.

Arboricultural Impact Assessment Reports
An Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA) is prepared once the final layout is complete. The report identifies trees to be removed, retained or transplanted. The report identifies possible impacts on trees to be retained. An AIA usually accompanies a development application (DA) to be lodged with the consent authority (Council). It recommends measures necessary to protect the trees throughout all demolition and construction stages. All development reports are completed in line with AS4970-2009 and relevant planning policies.

Tree Protection Plans and Specifications
A tree protection plan (drawing) shows the Tree Protection Zones (TPZs) for trees being
retained and any other other specifications required for tree protection. A copy of this plan and associated specifications will form part of the development plans. The tree protection plan should be included in subsequent construction documentation. All development reports are completed in line with AS4970-2009 and relevant planning policies.

Project Arborist Services
A Project Arborist (PA) is responsible for carrying out tree assessments, report preparation, consultation with designers, specifying tree protection measures, monitoring and certification. Xylology PA's are both suitably experienced and competent in arboriculture having acquired a minimum Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 5, Diploma of Horticulture (Arboriculture).

Root Location and Mapping
Root mapping may be required where development has been proposed close to trees. It can also be used to assess the condition of roots as part of a risk assessment, or where roots are suspected to be causing damage to buildings. Xylology can advise on the application and benefits of various methods of root location such as Air spade, Hydrovac, Hand excavation or Ground Penetrating Radar and direct you to a suitably qualified person with speacialised equipment. We can also prepare reports and make recommendations based on the findings of investigation for submission to council or court.

Hazard and Risk Assessment Consultation and Reporting
As well as having Diploma (AQF Level 5) arboricultural qualifications Xylology staff are trained in industry best practice Tree Risk Assessment methodologies. These include the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)
Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (QTRA) and Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA).
We use our experience and qualifications to deliver a common sense approach to tree risk assessment and management.

Advanced and Aerial Assessments
Not all tree defects can be effectively assessed without advanced equipment. When required, Xylology can arrange for an advanced assessment of your tree utlising technology such as Sonic Tomography. Additionally, not all defects can be assessed from the ground. In this instance we can arrange for an aerial assessment of your tree to get a better understanding of potential hazards. This makes for a superior risk assessment process.

Tree Valuation
There are numerous reasons to have a monetary tree valuation assessment documented. Some examples include the application of bonds, for compensation in litigation cases, for inclusions in contracts, as part of an asset valuation management plan.
Numerous monetary valuation methods have been developed and Xylology can assist in the selection and application of several methods that are regularly used and accepted in the industry and courts.

Pest and Disease Identification and Diagnosis
We specialise in the diagnosis and identification of pests and diseases. Investigation of the site conditions, previous management, symptoms of stress and, where necessary, utilising lab analysis. Xylology can determine probable causes of tree decline or damage and make site, and tree, specific recommendations based on current Horticultural and Arboricultural best practice.
